Description

On 28 October 1973 the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff held its inaugural concert featuring Yorkshire chansonniere Jake Thackray and his hero and inspiration, French superstar, Georges Brassens.  It was the only time the two would perform on the same stage and, indeed, the only occasion Brassens performed in the UK.

Thackray was in awe of the Frenchman and he regarded this event as a great personal honour and the high point of his career. ‘Great scott!’ he said afterwards. ‘Jake Thackray…. actually appearing with such a great star. I can not tell you what it was like … can you imagine?’

Forty-four years on, John Watterson, Hugh Bradley and special guests Rudolf Rocker come to the Sherman Theatre to celebrate that night in front of an audience which includes several people who were there in 1973, and members of the Thackray family.

The songs by Brassens were translated into English by Mark Goodall.
